Drive to Lake Bunyonyi

Today, our driver guide will pick you up from the Airport or your accommodation and you begin your journey to a beautiful island in Lake Bunyonyi, the “Lake of the little birds”. It’s one of the most beautiful places of Uganda. Being surrounded by hills, people call it “The Switzerland of Africa. Lake Bunyonyi lies in south western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale. It is one of the few lakes in the region that is rumored to be free of bilharzia and safe for swimming. On your way to Lake Bunyonyi, you will stop over at the equator in Masaka town.

At this point, there are two cement circles marking the equator line and it is worth stopping if you are traveling to Masaka or Kampala for a photo moment. Also watch a demonstration by local entrepreneur on how water swirls in opposite directions in the northern & southern hemispheres at the equator line. Another reason that makes the equator a worthwhile stop are the great shopping bargains. The point has got several craft shops and art galleries run by individuals and organizations. These craft stalls sell souvenirs and handmade products while some with marks talking about the Equator. It will not be inconveniencing if you bought a T-shirt with words ‘I crossed the Ugandan Equator’.

Once there, the forest park is one of the richest ecosystems in Africa and the diversity of species is a feature of the park. It provides habitat for some 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos and many other species. Day 4

Gorilla tracking

Today you go to track the rare mountain gorillas. After a briefing from your ranger guide, begin tracking the mountain gorillas through the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This can take a couple of hours or a whole day depending on the location of the apes. Keep an eye out for forest species such as buffaloes, elephants, black fronted duikers and bushbucks.

NB: Don’t forget to carry along your packed lunches.  It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat, rest, play and bond with their young ones. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest and discover their gorgeous natural habitat and the many species they share it with. Coming face to face with these Gorillas is the most amazing experience you can ever have! You will have a chance to take pictures and enjoy the Gorillas from a close range observing adults feeding, groaning and resting as the youngsters play and move backward and forward in a pleasantly comical demonstration. After a well-earned trip to the gorillas, you will drive back to your lodge for an overnight. You can rest your tired legs and restorative massage, offered from the gorilla tracking experience!
